Am I going crazy? This is what I have been asking. Why?
Well recently I have been asking my self another question and this when that question was raised with a leader from another church, I found that they did not have the same opinion as me.
So lets see what you think.
Is it time for you to throw me in that padded cell and throw away the key, or could I maybe on to something?
Before I continue you need to know that I genrealy lead a black and white exsistence (something I get from my mother!). So I am fully aware there is lots of grey in what I am about to lay out, but for it be me, and to say what I want then I need to be true to my Black and White nature.
I have now been in youth work for 7 years, and in this time I have seen the church begin to realise that young people have a very active part to play in the things that go on (praise the Lord!). This has led to lots of young people being released in the Holy Spirit, developing gifts and playing a highly active part in the Kingdom of God.
But recently I have been asking where children fit in?
Is it crazy to begin to want the same thing for them?
Is there an age that is just to young?
Or should we be actively seeking to help children devlop a real relationship with the Holy Spirit and help them develop their giftings?
The response of the other church leader was that they did not see the purpose of say a 6 year old being able to speak in tounges. But the same could be said of a 16 year olds or a 46 year old.
If God has a plan for each of us (no predestination debates thank you!) then surely he also will provide with the tools for that plan, and surely that means blessing us with spiritual gifts!
So at what age is it 'ok' to start seeking and releasing those gifts?
I'm very aware (here comes some grey) that our teaching must be balanced, and that this must all be tied in with a broader understanding of the Holy Spirit, along with guidance on how to live an effect life for the Kingdom.
But when do we start?
When?
